Yum Yum Jap

Recently, I've been craving rice. Weird, I know. Mostly rice with different sauces-- Mexican, with queso. Japanese, with white sauce. Chinese, with duck sauce. The list continues. Last weekend we ate at a local spot called Hibachi and spent $20 some. So on Valentine's day I was really wanting to go back, even though Dane hates the place.

So I thought to myself, why go out and spend money when we pretty much have everything here to make it ourselves? So I posted a few pictures on facebook and some friends wanted the recipes.

Fried Rice:

  • Make your rice and cool in the fridge
(I use boil in the bag rice because you can't mess it up like traditional rice)
  • brown your meat (we used steak, but anything would be good!)
  • separate your meat onto a plate
  • scramble two beaten eggs in your non-stick pan
  • break them up into pieces
  • add one cup of veggies
  • add 2 tbsp soy sauce (we used way more)
  • add cooled rice
  • add browned meat
  • cook 6-8 minutes or until veggies are tender
  • add salt and pepper to taste
White Japanese Shrimp Sauce
(I actually think it's orange, but whatever!)
  • melt 2 tbsp butter
combine the following ingredients (I used Tupperware so I could easily store afterwards, it made a lot)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 3 tbsp white vinegar (I think it actually calls for rice vinegar but I couldn't find it)
  • 3 tbsp sugar (I added a little more at the end to cancel out some of the vinegar)
  • 3/4 tsp paprika
  • 3/8 tsp garlic powder (about three pinches)
combine these together and whisk until smooth...cool & serve over rice (or everything)

There's different recipes out there but I thought this one tasted pretty authentic! You can taste it after and tweak anything you want to! Enjoy!
