Troubling Tuesdays

Yesterday was one of the most nerve wracking days I've had in a while!

It started out super normal and slightly boring, as most Tuesdays seem to blend in. As usual Dane called on his break and tried his usual convincing "outdoors speech" (this may sound lazy, but being 11 weeks pregnant with a one year old is exhausting, and the last thing I want to do most days is take him outdoors where he has endless space to run, and I have to follow.)

I was feeling particularly blah, so i decided to treat my baby and take him out into the blessed sunshine.

Ten minutes into playing I had to pee (really, its my new hobby) and so I scooped him up and locked him in the bathroom with me. I noticed his eye was red, but he was rubbing it and so I just figured some dirt got in there or something.

We went back out and I took him for ride in his cozy coupe. On the way back to our yard, I looked down at him and his entire face and neck was broken out in a patchy red rash, his nose was running, eyes were watering...obviously an allergic reaction. I took him inside and attempted to give him bendryl, which he refused. His doctor office advised me to bring him in immediately. I tried to stay calm, but it was pretty scary.

They rushed him right back, listened to his breathing and thank goodness he wasn't wheezing or having trouble breathing. We saw his regular doctor, which never happens for a walk in. I love him, so I was very grateful. He couldn't determine the cause because Slade had been out in the yard a million times, with no issues. He ate basically the same breakfast and snack he does daily. So he ordered dreaded bloodwork.

If you've never had to go through this, consider yourself lucky. They make you sit in a chair, holding your child down while they dig around in their arm with a needle looking for a vein. Meanwhile, your innocent little angel is screaming. You can almost hear them say "Mommy help me!" but Slade kept crying "da da da da!" which could be either of us...we're both "dada".

The stupid lady couldn't find a vein, or his were rolling...I'm not sure because she wouldn't communicate with me. She called in reinforcements to hold him down. At this point I was beyond done. Hormonal and scarred for life. They finally decided to prick his finger to draw blood into SIX viles. The entire process took about 30 minutes but it felt like hours. The other nurse kept shaking a stuffed frog 2 inches from his face, and I kept pushing it away. It obviously wasn't helping and who the heck wants a nasty toy shoved in their face while their screaming & crying?! She wasn't getting the memo and I was getting HOT.

I ran away from there as fast as possible and didn't look back. I'm hoping it was just a fluke. We won't know any results until next week.

this weekend

This weekend consisted of ample outdoors time. We've all been stuck inside, sick. So, the best way to clear the air was to get outside. Saturday morning after waking up to an impeccably clean house we drove to Wrightsville Beach. What's better than living 10 minutes from the shore? Living on the shore. Eventually this is our goal. For now, we will settle with a short drive--

As you can see, he wasn't very happy to take pictures. he was too busy chasing "duhs" and  running full speed into the ocean. We're going to be very busy this summer chasing after him! It was insanley windy and cold but totally worth it!

Later that afternoon my older sister Kelsie, came to town just for the night. It was great to see her. We all went to the neighborhood park & played.

We even saw Slade's favorite animal, in person-- "da da da duh!"
Such an awesome weekend, it definitely went by too fast!

its....

The stomach flu...That's right people! Tuesday night i started feeling really crappy. I was nauseous, and i attributed it to morning sickness. This time was a little different though, because i actually vomited. Then, about an hour later I got sick again! I felt like this couldn't be right. ..I was sweating, my heart was racing, my whole body was shaking. It continued about every hour through the night, and I barely slept a wink. At 3am, I called my ob and she said it sounded like I had the GI bug that's been sweeping the state.

She was sooo right. Dane had to call out of work sick (which he's never done) because he caught it from being an amazing hubby, cleaning up all my puke. so romantic!

Thankfully I didn't even have to beg and they called in a script for promethazine. Amazing stuff! It knocks you out though. Slade was pretty much on his own yesterday, and boy can little babies make a mess when unsupervised!

After finally being able to hold down water and pedialite ice pops (they are good!) I finally got to eat a cracker or two, and eventually move onto toast and applesauce.

I lost a total of 5lbs!

I'm feeling much better today, not as nauseous, but still very weak. I don't recommend contracting novovirus, ever. I would have rather been in labor than go through what I did the past 48 hours. That's saying something because I had the worst, most painful natural birth.

Oh, some of you might have been mislead by my title thinking this post would be on the gender test I was supposed to be taking today...

Well, I did take it! If the results are right like they were with Slade...he's going to have a little SISTER!

not the best picture, but hey- i've been sick.

Gender Test

I really don't understand how people can choose to wait to find out the sex of their baby until the birth.

First off, after birthing Slade I was pretty much incoherent so I didn't even hear what they said (if they even announced something like "He has all his fingers and toes!") So I doubt I would even be able to comprehend "It's a .....!" Secondly, how in the world do you prepare for something if your not sure whether it needs dresses or pants? I like to have everything prepared.

Waiting to find out the sex would be especially hard because at this point we won't be buying a house until next spring. That means re signing (hopefully) our lease in April, which means these two babies will be sharing a room. Not what I pictured at all, but it's going to have to work. In the case of a boy, I would just leave Slade's room as is, and re use his crib bedding (he sleeps in a full sized bed, or actually mostly with us) and probably use the clothing we already have. I wouldn't be having another baby shower because I just had one a year ago & I really don't need anything. (How annoying would it be if the same person invited you to a shower twice in two years?) If it's a girl, it's a whole 'nother ballgame. We have nothing. I would obviously be doing a neutral theme in their room with gender specific bedding or something (haven't figured it all out yet.)

So I guess you can say, we cannot wait to find out the sex (not because we care either way) so we can start planning!

I plan to take this little awesome test. Although it is not always right, it was with Slade & my best friends baby, Parker. A few of my other mommy friends took it with success as well.

It's pretty nifty! I was kinda psycho last time...I was pretty convinced (even after my ultrasound!) that Slade was a girl. I mean, there was no way I was having a boy. I know nothing about boys. I hate the outdoors. I'm as girly as they get. I did every test in the book to try and find out before our 18 week appointment. Rings stuck into pencils, Drano tests (I literally peed into a cup of drano. I don't suggest it- it's combustive and stinks) I even took some online quizzes.

I heard about this Intelligender test and decided it was worth a shot. There are crystals in the bottom of the cup, and when mixed with urine it has an chemical reaction to the hormones in your urine & ta da! A color pops up...yellow/gold for a girl and dark green for a boy. I know, sometimes it doesn't work...and trust me I'm not going to be painting the nursery based on this test, but it's fun & I'm excited to take it Thursday!

Wish me luck :)

Our BIG (little) news!

I'm sure everyone has been quite curious to my "excitement" rants on facebook, and anxiously waiting for this blog post! So here you go world, I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag (finally...)

That's right! Slade, my little baby is going to be a BIG BROTHER on or around Sept. 20, 2012.
(six days before my 22nd birthday!)

We found out on 1/11/11 (yeah, that's right! Slade's FIRST birthday!) I knew something was up when I almost puked eating vegetable soup. My bathroom counter looked something like this...

Even after all of the testing, Dane still wasn't convinced. So I scheduled a doctor appointment for February which was later cancelled to my disappointment. (what Dr. office only has one ultrasound tech?) Anyways, I panicked because he took off work AND of course the anticipation had built up so much I could barely sleep! So after some major research I found a place that offered to do it (for FREE, bonus!) and off we went to our very first ultrasound for our second baby.

This is what we saw!

Little tiny thing. Which is why this is BIG (little) news. Only 7 weeks 5 days here, but had a strong heartbeat and healthy brain development and we were beyond excited! We finally shared the news with our family but still weren't ready to inform the rest of the world yet.

but then today...
We had our real OBGYN appointment. It was so weird to be back at the place I visited so many times during my pregnancy with Slade. Only 13 months have gone by since my last visit. I didn't think we would be stepping foot in that place for another few years but I guess I was wrong!

After much anticipation and waiting in the waiting room with a fussy 1 year old, we finally laid eyes (again) on our second baby. It was moving all around, heart still beating thank the Lord.
9 weeks 1 day

As you can see, my new resident has really grown in just two weeks time. It's still early on, I have three weeks left in my first trimester but since everything has been going okay so far (and pretty much everyone knows already!) I wanted to share the news. I'm terrible at keeping secrets anyway!

We are very excited, nervous & just plain blessed.
Feels so weird to say we're going to be a family of four soon.
I am over the moon!

Yum Yum Jap

Recently, I've been craving rice. Weird, I know. Mostly rice with different sauces-- Mexican, with queso. Japanese, with white sauce. Chinese, with duck sauce. The list continues. Last weekend we ate at a local spot called Hibachi and spent $20 some. So on Valentine's day I was really wanting to go back, even though Dane hates the place.

So I thought to myself, why go out and spend money when we pretty much have everything here to make it ourselves? So I posted a few pictures on facebook and some friends wanted the recipes.

Fried Rice:

  • Make your rice and cool in the fridge
(I use boil in the bag rice because you can't mess it up like traditional rice)
  • brown your meat (we used steak, but anything would be good!)
  • separate your meat onto a plate
  • scramble two beaten eggs in your non-stick pan
  • break them up into pieces
  • add one cup of veggies
  • add 2 tbsp soy sauce (we used way more)
  • add cooled rice
  • add browned meat
  • cook 6-8 minutes or until veggies are tender
  • add salt and pepper to taste
White Japanese Shrimp Sauce
(I actually think it's orange, but whatever!)
  • melt 2 tbsp butter
combine the following ingredients (I used Tupperware so I could easily store afterwards, it made a lot)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 3 tbsp white vinegar (I think it actually calls for rice vinegar but I couldn't find it)
  • 3 tbsp sugar (I added a little more at the end to cancel out some of the vinegar)
  • 3/4 tsp paprika
  • 3/8 tsp garlic powder (about three pinches)
combine these together and whisk until smooth...cool & serve over rice (or everything)

There's different recipes out there but I thought this one tasted pretty authentic! You can taste it after and tweak anything you want to! Enjoy!

valentines day

This year was Slade's second Valentine's Day! In honor of the holiday of love- we crafted up some valentines to send out to his friends and family. I searched at three different stores for Batman cards, but they seriously weren't selling them this year. Guess he got beat out with the Green Lantern and Captian America? So i decided on Pooh Bear, a total classic. He enjoyed scribbling on them, and occasionally eating the pen.

we also had fun with the heart stickers that came with it to seal the envelopes...

Hope you had a happy one!

this weekend

I was going to school every saturday 8-4pm, which left me with zero energy to spend sunday's with my little family. Since that all went awry (maybe a blog post on that at some point) i've been cherishing every second with my boys (well, maybe not every second). Hey, at least we get to sleep in and have nothing to do all day...nothing can mess that up!

here's a little peek into our weekend

Usually Dane makes Saturday breakfast (it's sort of a tradition) but I wanted to show off my new bacon baking skills, and then Dane informed me that his Grammy already cooks bacon like this so I felt like a rookie and realized Grammy probably has way more secrets than pinterest.

However, throughly enjoyed my awesome breakfast -- and definitely indulged in way too much bacon. It was totally worth it until Dane told me that some poor little piggies had to die for our breakfast. He then continued on about a video (which you can watch here but I don't suggest it if you ever want to eat meat again) he once stumbled upon on youtube. I then had to go watch it and could barely keep my breakfast down. Thanks to him I pretty much gagged on my grocery trip everytime I looked in the meat asile. Vegetarian anyone? Dane and his 2 cents seem to ruin a lot of things...

Apparently though, I easily forgot about it to later indulge in some hibatchi steakhouse (yum) where my poor little guy slipped in the booth and knocked into the window sill, cutting open his eye. Can we say "mommy heartattack"? Yes, we can.

Luckily he took it like a champ and we were able to do ALL our shopping at Walmart. I keep refusing to go back but somehow end up there. It's ridiculous, I hate the place and everyone and their freakin' mom was there yesterday...There was also a scary ghetto girl there to shop and I totally "stole" her parking space (she had her kid standing in it with a short sleeved shirt on) Hi, this is Walmart, they don't take reservations so maybe you should walk like the rest of us and you wouldn't weigh 800lbs. Again, I'm not going back...

After sleeping in until 10am! We all wokeup and mommy made blueberry muffins (from scratch! haha kidding...)

Slade was exceptionally excited, and he ate two whole muffins-- he is a muffin head. At one point he had trouble swallowing because he put too much in his mouth. They must have been good! He would eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I let him. Seriously...he loves them. Also note: his eye...poor baby!

After breakfast we headed out to puddle around, mostly to clean out my car. I never understood how I babies get cars so messy! Thankfully I have leather so it's no biggie...other than he is terrified of vaccums so that part was not easy. We also found out he has a fear of the car wash! who would have thunk a water lover would be so afraid? At least he looks darn cute when he's upset!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. I know I did, it's always way too short! I am looking forward to this week though, Valentines day!!! I can't wait to surprise Dane next saturday with our dual gift (he better be ordering me an edible arrangment and tickets to see the vow as we speak...)  PLUS: Dane gets Friday off and I'll be posting a very special blog post sometime that day :)

LUSH review

My first experience with this company came in 2008, when I used my roomies shower scrub. It was amazing and smelled like a margarita from what I can remember. I wouldn't have used it so much (sorry!) if I knew how expensive it was...or maybe it wouldn't have mattered because it was awesome.

I didn't hear about it again until recently, thanks to a fellow blogger and sahm Kaity [see her blog].
I always wondered where Kelsey got her amazing body scrub, which I now see is actually a face scrub (whoops!) She turned me onto the company after hearing her success story.

Now, I'm seriously not into organics or being green or anything of the type. I think that's pretty ridiculous seeing in how I probably already ingested plenty of pesticides, hormones, and all things unnatural and I'm pretttttty dang perfect, but this company believes in using fresh organic fruits and veggies in their products which is pretty neat. I also think it's cool this company doesn't test on animals (lets be nice to our furry friends!) and it also tells your when your product was made, and when it's best by. Haven't you ever found that yummy lotion from....whenever and used it thinking "does this stuff have a shelf life?" well, apparently it does. News to me!

I have a oily, yet dry and breakout prone skin. It's pretty confusing. Moisturizing seems like a no no and any acne meds seem to dry me out, but 30 minutes later hello, oil. So I scoured the website and these are the products I ordered:

Super effective, spot-zapping face gel, with aloe and witch hazel. The thyme, tea tree and rosemary antibacterial infusion dries invisibly and you can feel the witch hazel shrinking mini-volcanoes.

500 green grapes go into every batch and combat the dirt that builds around spots.
500 GRAPES?? Sounded pretty good to me. Only around $13 which is pretty cheap for their products. It's actually a spot treatment, NOT a cleanser like I originally thought, but I'm actually happy with my current cleanser so it all worked out.

Then I needed something for my dry spots...I mean nothing, NOTHING touched these things. I just recently noticed them and I think I was having an allergic reaction to my skin I.D. I tried Eucerin, Aquaphor, Vaseline...seriously, everything. When I stumbled upon this I knew I had found the answer.

light moisturizer for oily and acne-prone skin; we put in shea instead of cocoa butter (even though we love it – it's a little rich for some), soothing honey, calming rose and lavender honey water.

Even though I thought the price tag was a bit much (I mean, really...$40.00??) I got it anyways because I was desperate. So you can imagine my disappointment when I finally recieved my order and the pot was t i n y.  I was pissed. I spent $70 and even though they gave me a very tiny scrap of soap as a free gift, I was pretty annoyed. I'd compare the size to the palm of your hand.

I already had it, so what- was I going to send it back and complain? No...I waited this long, I was going to use it! I waited all day and couldn't wait to wash my face.

Kaity was totally right. Literally, not even a pea size amount covered my entire face, and one squirt was more than enough of the grease lightning. Immediately my face felt softer and refreshed. My red little spots I picked at this morning were fading, and my face smelled soooo good. I can't wait to continue using these products and see some results!

I plan on in the near future ordering some more goodies, but with the way Dane reacted to my recent splurge on cosmetics and "stupid stuff" I think I'm going to wait for him to cool down! Hopefully this beautiful face of mine (all thanks to Lush) can help do some convincing in the meantime!
